The Polymerase Chain Reaction (PCR) is a widely used molecular technique to make millions of copy of a DNA sample, with applications in a variety of fields such as medical diagnostics, biotechnology and forensic sciences.During the course of this Bridge – Proof-of-Concept project we have designed a completely new sample holder with extremely high heating and cooling rates and a much lower sample volume, in order to cut analysis time from currently 1-2 h down to 10 minutes, and reagent consumption by 90%. Our sample holder has been engineered in conjunction with a PCR thermocycler platform that is stand-alone and cost effective. Next to a first stand-alone desktop instrument we have also developed a portable version that is battery-powered and that operates in conjunction with a smartphone. We have successfully demonstrated the quantitative PCR capabilities of our platform and we have packaged the technology into a complete ‘Rapid PCR test’.We have also further improved our cartridge also for digital PCR applications and in parallel we have developed a simple and rapid DNA extraction procedure.

diaxxoPod (RUO)
Our in-vitro diagnostic test cartridge based on rapid Polymerase Chain Reaction (PCR) amplification technology. This cartridge can reliably detect and distinguish the mutants from UK (20I/501Y.V1, B.1.1.7 – VOC-202012/01) as well as the South African mutation (B.1.351 lineage).
The test cartridge is aimed to improve the public health situation by rapidly enabling the detection of variants of concern. The cartridge is designed for qualitative detection of variants of interest of the SARS-CoV-2 Viral RNA in saliva samples and it works in conjuction with diaxxoPCR.
The test cartridges are sold with all the necessary reagents pre-loaded in the reaction wells. The use of the test cartridges is therefore extremely simple:
